What's the problem?
ZAIN: Not that a big ego is bad. It is actually good in a way. It just needs to be in the service of God. The bigger the ego, the more power a true teacher has to help others. You [Jon Peniel] will someday be Initiated, become an Adept, and again be the great teacher you have been in the past, with the great power that accompanies that. But only AFTER you harness your ego, and it serves God, not your selfish separate self.
Humans today are basically not much different from their ancestors, even though they THINK they are. ...All the violence, destruction, and "inhumanity" had just gone more underground, become more controlled, and media controlled. ...Similar atrocities are still occurring, but they are virtually ignored...People all over the world are still being routinely suppressed in virtual slavery. The major powers of the world are undergoing economic & social disintegration. Crime & hatred actually are on the rise, and grow daily.
Humans have waged a sort of war on animals also, wiping out entire species for direct profit, or as a side-effect of other ventures. They have waged war on nature also, wiping out forests, killing oceans and the creatures there, creating holes in the atmosphere, and ultimately forcing the extinction of species at an incredible rate. ...The imbalances created by humans have affected everything on Earth. Now new mutant diseases are on the loose, climactic changes are beginning to alter the environment with floods & droughts that will soon cause famine as weather makes food growing difficult to impossible.
Scientists have now discovered that many animals, including some fish, are being born neither male or female. That means that this will be the last generation for many species. Human male sperm count is down 40% since World War 2. How long before humans will not be able to reproduce either?
ZAIN: The separate self's blind selfishness is so out of control that it doesn't even consider that it's creating its own demise.
Personal problems
Some people's lives are constantly filled with discord & pain, and they can't escape suffering. Others are able to fill their minds, and the days of their lives, with distractions - entertainment, work, or whatever, to create an illusion that "glazes over" the pain of their problems. Some get involved in "play wars", through competitive sports. But at best, living that way only delays pain & suffering they have created in their own lives, and almost always makes things even worse. Life keeps catching up to them, piercing their illusions, and leveling them with pain from time to time.

Attacking the problems themselves never works for long. 1st we must discover the ROOT CAUSE, and eradicate THAT. The way to find a solution to a problem, is to really identify the source of the problem. Our primary task then, is to get a clear understanding of what has created all these terrible problems on Earth.
To understand the cause of all our problems, we need to go back to the beginning. Way back.
The Origin of the Universe, and the Separate Self
A mandala is a good representation of our becoming separate individuals, yet still remaining one with, the One Universal Spirit, or God. This concept, or spiritual principle is also sometimes symbolically represented as a tree - many parts springing forth from a central source {Blogger's Note: Tree of Life}.
beyond roots
The nature of the spectrum of physical life on Earth is a myriad of individual forms, far more elaborate than we can even draw in a mandala. It also involves dichotometric separation (the splitting of 1 thing into 2 parts with opposing polarities). ...Our manifesting on Earth required individual forms, and dichotometric separation - which to us meant a great deal.

When we entered this plane of dualities & polar opposites, we changed greatly from our previous "Spirit" forms. We were no longer angelic beings with self-contained energy flows. Our internal male & female elements had once been so fully integrated, that there was not even a concept of male or female. But with the manifestation into the physical plane, these elements dichotomized, dividing into "male" and "female" polar opposite parts (now "soulmates"). Eventually, as we manifested deeply into this dichotometric physical plane, we physically became separate male & female beings. The dichotomy affected each male & female being even further, and in many ways. Our previously integrated mind, with logic/intellect & intuition/emotion functioning as one within the One, became left & right hemispheres of brain that divided logic & intuition. The minds of these male & female selves, became dominated by either logic/intellect oriented, or intuition/emotion. As degeneration/lowering of vibration & consciousness occurred further, the males generally became more logic/intellect oriented, and the females became more intuition/emotion oriented. Logic & intuition were no longer functioning in balance, as one within One. And the 2 halves, are in opposition rather than in flow. That's 1 reason males & females don't understand each other, and often argue.
the big break up
Let's use the mandala representation again. Think of it as the very outer parts of the mandala, actually separating. They lose their connection. They lose their universal Consciousness, and subsequently, its peace, awareness, coordination & guidance. They lose everything that being One with God had to offer. They are no longer in the "flow" of things. They also lose harmony with the other parts that have separated. {Blogger's Note: also like the tree of life, with the leaves falling off}
The self reverses polarity
Upon separating from the One, the separate self turns its attention to its self. Attention is directed inward rather than outward. This puts it out of harmony with Universal Flow & Order. This inward direction naturally then gave birth to a way of being - a self-ishness. Thus we have the selfish separate self.
In placing attention on & giving energy to the selfish separate self, we turn away from being receptive to the outflowing 'source of Universal Consciousness, and maintain a selfish separate self consciousness...losing awareness of its connection with its spiritual nature, and thusly, the Universal Spirit & Universal Consciousness.
In becoming "cut off" from the Universal Spirit, the source of creation, humanity has become "blind" in a sense. No longer aware that we are ALL ONE, people act as the negative polarity - they look to take & get, rather than give (as is the way of the positive polarity). This negative, selfish way of being, creates more negativity, pain, and suffering for all, INCLUDING THE SEPARATE SELF.
For example: Consider what would happen if just your arms & legs left the guidance, coordination & consciousness of the entirety of your body. Then they got their own identity, and developed selfish separate selves. You would have such things as one hand trying to put on a glove in a snowstorm, not caring what happened to the other hand. And the legs would be doing their own thing at the same time! What chaos! Again, just look around at the condition of the world to see the chaos here.
Serious delusion
Engrave this in your mind. It is so important. The Atlantean Children of the Law of One teach that THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS, OUR PERSONAL PROBLEMS, AND ALL THE ACTIONS THAT CREATE THE PROBLEMS, COME FROM OUR DELUSION THAT WE ARE SEPARATE FROM THE ONE, AND THE SELFISHNESS THAT RESULTS FROM THAT DELUSION.
ZAIN: Help them clearly & finally understand that the real problem, the real enemy, the real source of all the "bad" things on Earth is simply selfish people acting selfishly. And it is up to each person to change themselves, not the world. That is the only way to change the world. Each of us is a SELFISH person acting SELFISHLY. We are thus our own enemy. And going further to the root of the matter - what is behind selfishness? THINKING YOU ARE SEPARATE FROM EVERYTHING ELSE. Then "looking out for #1" begins. And when you have a whole world full of people looking out for #1, you can see the results - just turn to the news.

You cannot fight your selfish separate self directly, it only gives it energy.
Eventually I "got it". I had not been looking at my self-centeredness enough, I was avoiding the things I needed to do to "break" those self-mirrors that totally surrounded me in the room of my life. The self-mirrors that I thus saw all things reflected off of 1st, instead of seeing pure objective reality. I didn't know my self. And he, as all true teachers do, was mirroring my INNER-SELF, and not letting me get away with my delusion. He was simply reminding me about it, and helping me deal with what I needed, in order to realize my continued self-deception.
Knowing Your Self
You must know your self in order to transcend your self & regain Universal consciousness. When you truly know yourself, see your own selfishness, transcend it, and become a person who loves unselfishly, then you will clearly understand the selfishness in others, and the Unselfish Love in others. You will see both aspects simultaneously, and as a whole.

3 Makes a Whole
As if separation from the One didn't cause enough problems alone, the separate self further separated within itself. And the lower an individual's consciousness is, the more there are internal separation problems. In any case, here are some obvious scientific facts, and some teachings, about our 2 & 3-fold natures.
Some aspects of our selves divided into 2 parts. There is the selfish/unselfish split parts we just spoke of. The male/female split. The logic/intuition split. The intellect/emotion split. The positive/negative split. And the 2 split parts are often at odds with each other. Some people, regardless of sex, are more "right brained" & others more "left brained". Still other aspects of our selves are divided into 3 parts, which we are about to discuss.
All Creation itself has a 3-fold nature. Within the threefold nature, we can also see the twofold dichotomy of the material plane. But here is the fundamental concept: The FIRST nature is LIGHT, the positive polarity [ + ]; The SECOND nature is DARKNESS, the negative polarity [ - ]; The THIRD nature is the INTERACTION, or INTERCOURSE, OF darkness & light as a whole.
The 3-fold essential vibratory nature of our human manifestation is SPIRIT, MENTAL, and PHYSICAL. You can also see it in our consciousness: sub-conscious mind, "conscious" mind, and Universal conscious mind. ...Because our consciousness is cut off from the Universal Spirit, and we are not properly in touch with our own Inner Being, we are an uncoordinated internal mess.
Obviously we need to re-coordinate...achieve this as a natural "side effect" of transcending selfishness by developing & fostering our Unselfish Love for others. The process is also aided by various techniques & exercises (described later in the book). For those who achieve reunification with the Universal Spirit, paradise awaits.
making a new world
The ancient Atlantean teachings also proclaim that those who want to help change the world for the better, must 1st change themselves, and transform into Unselfishly Loving beings. If you want to live in a world of loving people, be a loving person. One of the ways to achieve this, is to put others before yourself, to love others 1st, to consider others 1st, to give to others 1st.
All those who have embraced caring for OTHERS 1st, ALWAYS loved their own self also. You love yourself automatically & feel great about yourself, BECAUSE your Unselfish Love is of great help to all, INCLUDING yourself. This is also the only way you can UNSELFISHLY Love your self, and Unselfish Love is the only "real" love. There is a Law of One in action here.
Christian Greek PARABLE (around 100 AD): A man dies & is being taken to heaven by angels. The angels tell him they will 1st show him hell. They then take him to a place with a giant bowl of food, as big as a lake, filled with nutritious stew. All around the giant bowl were emaciated, starving, miserable people. Each person had a 12 foot long spoon, just long enough to reach the stew, but they could not get it into their mouths. All suffering & in agony, trying to feed themselves the stew in vain. NEXT, the angels took the man to heaven. To his surprise, he saw the same scene! Yet something was different here - all the people were, smiling, happy & healthy looking! What was the difference? The people in heaven would scoop the stew & bring it to the mouth of another, then someone else would scoop & feed another, and so forth. The angels smiled & said, "Here the people feed each other. Here are the people that learned the way of Love."
It may seem to idealistic or impractical to you right now to stop thinking selfishly. Giving to selfish people can sometimes do the people you are giving to more harm than good. There are plenty who will selfishly "take", and there needs to be discretion as to who to give to, and how.
